The Science of Being Great
After reading one third of this book, I
instantly feel the magic of this book. It can be a chicken soup for the soul,
but it’s something more. It doesn’t just give you a clear path to find the way
through the darkest moment in life. It more like guides the right path to know
yourself better, with the Principle of Power. According to this book, Principle
of Power is the innate power born within every man. Everyone possesses it but
not all of us know the existence of this inner god. Author tries to awaken that
gift given by the God in every man, because only by doing so can we find the
unlimited possibilities in ourselves, in this world. This book shows the greatness
achieved by those great man, like Lincoln, Washington, and Napoleon. None of
them were successful at the very beginning; on the contrary, they failed
millions of times without losing their determination and finally became great. In
other word, we all have the capability to achieve what we want to do or who we
want to be, once we are truly believe in ourselves deeply enough. Holding the
thought unwaveringly in your mind and sow the seed of hope positively in your
heart, waiting on its growing, you will ultimately become great. Furthermore,
there is actually a process of beware the existence of the power of God inside
us. First step is to consecrate, consecrate the faith, the power in you. It’s
like to actually embrace the potentials you have whether you like or not. And
submit to your mind, in this step, you are allowed to disregard the narrow
restrictions, some traditional ideas, obsolete regulations and religious rules,
in case you are bounded by creeds in which you don’t believe. You have to be
absolutely surrender to your mind, following your heart. The second step is
identification, with the aware of the capabilities and determinations in our
mind, we fully recognize the Principle of Power is God itself. As the author
says, we are the substances with consciousness
that think and create. Therefore we are the gods in so many ways. We
dominate destiny itself. With the point of view that see ourselves as the
highest ones, we would find it really positive, faithful but not overconfident.
The third step is idealization. Idealization is kind of the process that embody
our thoughts and ideas. Like if you are a law student, you must wish you will
be great someday. Then you should picture yourself become a great lawyer in the
future. Imagining you win every case, defend every justice and felicity, you
are supposed to keep that kind of thought in your head. Gradually, it grows
more definite and habitual within and without. You act like you are already a
great lawyer, and you are accustomed to this sense of achievement. It proves
the initial expectation in you is no longer a wish, yet it’s a destined
prophecy. You are the God, and nothing can prevent you from becoming whatever
you want to be. While, having brilliant talents, good mind, strong faculties
and a large brain don’t mean you are a great man unless you use all these in a
great way. That is, with all the power and aware mentioned above is not enough
to become a really great man. While what’s the great way? I personally think
the great way is to have an active attitude in whatever you do. You can make a
small thing matters; you should make small thing great. You don’t need to
accomplish something really hard to prove your strong mind and soul. Instead,
all you need to follow is make everything you do a task you are called to fulfill.
Having the right attitude to serve the world, to utilize all your power is what
the great way means. That’s another crucial principle I pick up from this book.
Hello, Cody.
