JANE EYRE

Is it because I am poor, obscure, mediocre-looking, thin, and have no soul and no heart? You're wrong, my heart is as rich as yours, my heart is as full! "Jane Eyre" is a classic work in the history of English literature, which successfully shaped the first woman in the history of English literature to adopt an independent and proactive attitude towards love, life, society and religion, and dared to fight for freedom and equal status. Today, Jane Eyre has become a classic representative of independent women. I hope that in the sun, there will be more Jane Eyre in the flowers, whether it is poor or rich; Whether it is beautiful or mediocre in appearance, they have a good heart and a full heart, and they can live with an independent personality and a strong personality. Jane Eyre was an orphan girl, born into a poor priesthood. His parents contracted typhoid fever and died within a month. Young Jane was fostered at her uncle's parents' house. After the death of her uncle, Mr. Reid, Jane lived a life of discrimination and abuse for 10 years. Once, due to resisting her cousin's beating, Jane was imprisoned in the Red House, leaving her seriously ill. At the end, she met an opportunity in her life to become rich, and her uncle left her a huge fortune behind her, so that she no longer had to worry about her livelihood and could live a decent life. In the face of a huge inheritance, her approach makes people sigh, not to enjoy it exclusively, but to share it equally with her cousins, and it is impossible to do this without excellent character and cultivation.

In this book, what impressed me the most was the character of Jane Eyre. Jane Eyre is a woman with a pure heart, good at thinking, unwilling to endure social oppression, and used for happiness. She has suffered at the bottom of society, and her life experiences are even more sympathetic, but she is self-respecting and self-reliant. Her sentence: "We are equal" shocked everyone and deeply felt her noble spirit and personality charm. Jane Eyre believes that love should also be based on equality, not on the status, wealth and appearance of society, only men and women really love each other, it is possible to achieve happiness. In this regard, Jane Eyre showed a strong desire for happiness, and despite her position as a servant, she did not give up her pursuit of Rochester. From the book I saw Jane Eyre's courage, saw her love and dignity, and I felt ashamed. If it had been mine, I would not have dared to rush in and extinguish the fire when Mr. Rochester's room was on fire. In today's society, people are frantically drowning out love for money and status. Choose between rich and poor, and choose between loving and not loving. Few people will abandon everything for love as Jane Eyre did, and have no remorse. What "Jane Eyre" shows us is a kind of love that pursues wholehearted dedication, and the dignity that we should have as a person. It is like a glass of ice water, purifying everyone's heart. Man is not cute because he is beautiful, but he is beautiful because he is cute. A noble life, the embarrassing environment cannot change his nobility, the difficult fate cannot change his noble, noble life, often know how to enjoy life gracefully, easy to manage life.

Things to do on our last class!

Dear all,

Your "purgatory" is going to end soon, XD! But I also hope that you have learned something practical, helpful, and, overall speaking, worthwhile, with some joy and a sense of achievement. If you don't, I will keep researching the why and how to improve this curriculum.

Now here are some reminders:

1. I forgot to include "work process" and "work progress" when listing the required elements of your portfolio. Please do include it.

2. Please create a content table to show the page numbers for all the parts in your portfolio.

3. You know that you will be interviewed later after the curriculum, which will come in next semester during the noontime or any schedule that suits both you and me. Please wait for the notice. Thank you so much.

4. From 1/19 to 1/21, I'll also send out one link to a survey that might take you less than 15 min.

If you have further questions, you can ask here, send me email messages, or ask via our dear class TA, Emily.

I am excitedly longing for your final presentations!

A final class photo shall be taken at the end of our class! See you all tomorrow morning!

In addition to your video rehearsal

Dear all,

We'll meet at the reading lab in 602, group by group, following the schedule posted last week. You can certainly still work in our usual classroom 302. But, please do come to the lab a bit earlier before your scheduled time; do not let us (業師)wait.

For tomorrow, it's all very simple: we will just play your video (which is supposed to be submitted already) and give you comments and suggestions for your revision. You will have to note down all of them while revising your video.

From tomorrow to the final presentation day (1/19), you can work on the following:

1. Revise your video according to the feedback you receive.

2. Create PPT slides for your final presentation, which should include:

    a. The rationale of your design/idea, e.g., the problem you have observed. Please support your descriptions with numbers and facts. (Narration).

    b. The solution to the problem, e.g., step-by-step explanations with images and descriptions of how your ideas or products are created and built. (Description/Process).

    c. How to use the product you invented or apply the system/concept you build.

    d. How different or newer your invention is (comparison/contrast/argumentation).

    e. Questions you predict to have while presenting your ideas.

3. Prepare your final process report (I have given the format).

4. Prepare your electronic portfolio (to be due on 1/21), which include:

    a. blog posts (6)

    b. essay drafts (9): for the drafts with my handwritten comments, please photograph those drafts.

    c. individual storyboard drafts and links to the videos (version 1 & 2).

    d. group storyboard drafts and links to the videos (version 1 & 2).

    e. a one-page reflection paper that describes what you have learned in this course and gives suggestions for this course to be better conducted.

Note: Our TAs will open a drive for you to submit all materials for your portfolio.

16+2

Remember we have this 16+2 policy? I am using one of the hours for you to work together in class so that you don't have to gather outside of the class. It is very likely that sometimes one or two of the members have to go to other classes or can't join for personal reasons.

Bring your laptops!

I will return your storyboard for you to make revisions. Louis will also come at about 10:20 in case you need some technical suggestions.

I certainly hope you all arrive on time so that it won't be unfair to those who are punctual and waiting for you to begin the work. Let's not waste each other's time, ok? For tomorrow, you are welcome to bring your breakfast and coffee. Please focus on this project and not use this time for your other works (for other courses). If all agree that you only need two hours working in the classroom, you can choose to leave earlier.

Group rehearsals will happen next week 1/12, with Cathy Lin coming over to give you suggestions, then 1/19 is our final presentation day, while our online expo and showcase will occur simultaneously.

See you tomorrow morning. If you are still confused about the following two weeks and how to compile your portfolios, I'll walk you through the details again.

Things to do on 12/29

 Dear all,

I have browsed through our blog and seen you post your log 6s, and some posted the book covers as your log 7s. This is a hectic semester, I know, but I do see your progress and feel so happy about it!

In order to give you more time to work on the final project, prepare your final presentation, and write up the process report, I have slowed down my teaching pace and reduced some of the materials I had planned to discuss in class.  Tomorrow, I'll talk about one last approach to writing, Writing Essays Using Multiple Strategies, to make up the part that we missed due to the limited time. Secondly, I'll share one more comparing/contrasting essay that may help you with your final project (how to describe your inventive product and how it is different from other similar ones). More videos to share in the first hour that can expand your views toward using digital storytelling for more purposes.

Another thing that we may need to negotiate is the schedule for the last three weeks:

First, will it be too hasty if I ask you to present your first video as a rehearsal on 1/5? Cathy and Louis will be present giving feedback and suggestions.

If not, I'll leave 1/12 a buffer week, meaning no class, but we'll gather in the classroom for you to work together on revising your videos. I shall make sure that your scripts are errorless. Louis will be around giving help, too. And then we do final presentations on 1/19,

Or, will you prefer to give your rehearsal on 1/12? Then I'll make 1/5 our buffer week.

We'll decide tomorrow morning.

See you!

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory

Last novel I read was full of romance atmosphere, so this time I chose the one that targets to children, Charlie and the chocolate factory.

I had not watched the movie version before I read this novel, but as I read the title of the book, I knew it was definitely a story that only happened in imagination. I really love this kind of fictions especially for children. I guess it might because I am still childish.

In the story, Charlie lives with his grandparents and parents. His father cannot gain enough money to raise the family, so Charlie is always thin and weak. Besides, his only can get a bar of chocolate from the tremendous chocolate factory in his town. Every time he gets the chocolate, he will treasure it until it starts to expire. I did something similar to him when I was young. I seldom could buy snacks as a child, so I would only eat a little quantity of a pack of snack. However, after few days I began to forget the snack. Next time I recalled it, it had expired. Since then, I would finish the snack at once in case the snack would be wasted again.

Although I can predict that Charlie will definitely get the golden ticket to visit the magic factory, I do not know what is inside the factory until I read the following plots. That is the most interesting thing to read children fiction novel. Children’s imagination is creative, so is the novel. Everything happens in the factory always makes me want to keep reading and explore the whole factory with Charlie.
